The main focus of the 5-year-old program is to strengthen already developing readiness skills. Much time is spent in helping each individual child to develop self-confidence, independence, pre-reading, and pre-math skills. It is a program that extends beyond our 4-year-old program in that it encourages children to increase their attention span, complete a project from start to finish, and encourages growth in a child’s ability to articulate thoughts and ideas to others. Because children complete the majority of projects on their own, their fine motor skills and listening skills are sharpened as they follow directions, and do their own tracing, cutting, and pasting. This program helps to prepare and nurture children who could benefit from an extra year to grow and gain confidence before kindergarten.
